If you’re like most people, you probably don’t have a disaster plan that includes which property restoration company to use. If you’ve already started figuring out who to call, you’re on your way. We’re here to help making a daunting task simple and make sure you get it done quickly so you don’t cause secondary damage (not covered by insurance typically).

Disasters may be due to major disasters such as floods, fires, and severe storms. More often it is because of frozen pipes, busted water heaters, and smaller catastrophes.  During your time as a homeowner, you will eventually have to deal with this and need to call a property restoration company.  Usually, under distress, you will end up calling the first company you come across.

It is extremely important to get things taken care of right away. However, selecting an experienced and efficient company is just as important.

In the Greater Charlotte Area there is no required licensing or regulations for Property Restoration Companies.  This is why it is important for the homeowner to know what to look for and which questions to ask when picking the right restoration company in Charlotte.

Here are some points to look for when making the decision to select your restoration contractor:

1. Does the Restoration Company have insurance?

Important coverage is worker’s compensation and liability. Additionally, they should have coverage for all their vehicles and an umbrella policy to take care of the rest.  Our company, Mission Restorations, has automobile liability, commercial general liability, as well as an umbrella policy.  We make it our goal to make sure no further damage is done to your home while doing the restoration work.  However, if by some chance a lamp breaks, it will definitely be covered by our insurance.

2. Is the company bonded? Do their employees have background checks?

Once again, North Carolina does not have state registration requirements or mandatory licensing for Restoration Companies. Make sure to ask if all employees have background checks. Also, make sure that the company and employees are bonded.  Bonded means that they have a business license and the appropriate insurance to back them up. With these requirements met, you can know that the company and its workers will give you an honest and fair work experience.

3. Do the technicians have specific training and certifications?

The training standards for our company are set by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification. This Institute requires hands-on experience, training courses, and testing.  A technician that is certified in areas such as Fire Damage, Advanced Structural Drying, Water Damage, and Advanced Microbial Remediation will know exactly how to help with your various needs. As all of our lead technicians are IICRC certified, you can feel confident knowing they will get the job done right.

4. When are the company’s technicians available?

Disasters and other damaging events can happen at any time. It is vital that distinguished property restoration companies are available to help at any time, day or night.  Every instance needs immediate attention to stop the damage from spreading and to begin restoring your home back to normal. The situation needs to be checked on continuously to make sure the restoration is working correctly. Mission Restorations assesses the project every day (including weekends and holidays) to make sure the correct adjustments are being made to the equipment and that the containment of the damages is holding.

5. What is the average length of a property restoration project?

This will depend on what type of damage is done.  Make sure that the restoration company you select lets you know the details of their plan.  Ask them to tell you what equipment they will be using, any demolition that may be needed, and how they are going to isolate the affected spaces.  There is a lot of noise and mess with clean up, and it usually takes up to 5 days. We try to have water damage dried up within 3 to 5 days.  Also remember that after things like the cleanup of mold or the area completely drying, there are still jobs to do. Keep this in mind when time estimates are given for a project.

6. Does the restoration company offer to deal with your insurance company directly?

It is routine for the licensed restoration companies to contact your insurance and insurance professionals directly.  Ask them to keep you informed on all that is discussed.

7. What if there is asbestos or lead problems?

Mission Restorations technicians have the required certification and training to get rid of asbestos and lead.  By law, we are required to test older homes for asbestos and lead before any demolition work can be done.  We use an independent testing company and will get the results back within 24-48 hours.  We also make sure that your home and our employees are protected from exposure to these substances.

8. What restoration experience does the company have?

Mission Restorations technicians are certified and capable of handling any dilemma. Mission Restorations offers services in mold remediation, water damage, and fire damage in the greater Charlotte area.  We are a company that is fully bonded and insured.  Every single lead technician has had background checks and are IICRC certified.  We are certified by the state of North Carolina in asbestos awareness as well as by the EPA as a Lead Safe firm.

If you choose your property restoration company wisely, you can be secure knowing that you are dealing with qualified professionals.  Ask these technicians about their experience. They will be able to tell you about the mold, water, or fire damages that they come up against each week.

Whichever company you choose, make sure they have the necessary qualifications. Hire Mission Restorations as your qualified property restoration company, and you will be sure to have all of your needs met as we help get your home repaired in a timely manner.

I like that you mention speaking with a company to see how long it would take for them to restore the home after damages. It’s good to have an idea of how long while comparing different contractors because sometimes it’s better to take longer and do a better job than have someone rush through a job. It’s worth the time and research to find the right contractor to repair your home after a flood.
